Here’s another beef sukka recipe from the Tasty Spicy Delish kitchen. This kerala style beef sukka is made with freshly grated coconut instead of coconut pieces. It is one of my children’s favourite dishes and brings back a lot of childhood memories for them. My husband used to bring this beef sukka and parathas from a small local restaurant. I tried to recreate the same at home and they enjoyed it a lot.
Ingredients
Step 1 - Marination
- 750 gms beef cut into small pieces
- 2 tsp ginger garlic paste
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp kashmiri chili powder
- 1 tsp salt
Step 2 - Cooking
- 2 tbsp coconut oil or any regular cooking oil
- 1 medium onion finely chopped
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 3-4 tsp lemon juice
Step 3 - Tempering
- 2 tbsp coconut oil or any regular cooking oil
- 1 large onion
- 1 inch ginger cut into Juliennes
- 2 green chillies cut diagonally
- 10-15 curry leaves
- 4 tbsp fresh grated coconut
Instructions
- Cut the beef into small pieces, wash twice and place in a strainer to drain the water
- In a bowl, add the Step 1 (Marination) ingredients and marinate for 30 mins
- After 30 mins, add the beef to the pressure cooker, add 1/2 cup hot water, close the cooker and cook on high heat for 1 whistle then reduce the heat to low and cook for 10 mins. Remove from flame and allow it to cool
- Next, heat a pan and add 2 tbsp coconut oil/regular cooking oil. When hot, add chopped onions (from Step 2 ingredients). When onions are almost brown, lower the heat and add coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, garam masala and fry for 30 seconds
- Then add only the meat from the pressure cooker and fry nicely along with masala for 1 min, add the water from the pressure cooker and cook on high heat until the water is dry. Then add lemon juice and mix. Check salt, spice and sourness and add accordingly. Remove from flame and keep aside
- In a another pan, add 2 tbsp oil. When hot, add onions and curry leaves fry till the onion are golden brown, add ginger juliennes, green chillies, fry for 30 seconds to 1 minute then add to the beef.
- In the same pan, dry roast grated coconut on low flame stirring continuously until golden brown then add to the beef.
- Serve beef sukka with parathas, chapatis, rice and dal or as any side dish
