My mom’s delicious beef sukka has been one of my favourites right from my childhood.  Growing up, I remember eating it a lot. All my siblings and their families still make this beef sukka. I make this recipe for my husband and children and they love it too. We enjoy eating this with chapatis, parathas, rice and dal.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg beef cut into pieces
  • 1 large onion finely chopped
  • 4-5 tbsp tomato puree or 2 large tomatoes finely chopped
  • 8 cloves garlic finely chopped
  • 1 inch ginger finely chopped
  • 1 green chili finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 tbsp mix masala powder
  • 1/2 tbsp Kashmiri chili powder
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 4-5 tbsp fresh grated coconut
  • Salt as per taste

Instructions

  1. Cut and wash the meat and keep aside
  2. In a pressure cooker, add 2-3 tbsp oil, add chopped ginger, garlic, green chili and fry for 30-40 seconds on medium flame.
  3. Add onions and fry until almost brown then add tomato puree and fry nicely until it is dry. Then add meat, salt, mix nicely and cook for 1 minute stirring continuously on high flame.
  4. Add hot water, mix and close cooker and cook for 1 whistle on high flame. Then lower the heat to low and cook for 10 minutes. Remove from flame and let it cool.
  5. Once cooled and all pressure is gone, open the cooker and keep it back on the flame again. Add turmeric powder, mix masala, kashmiri chili powder, mix everything and add vinegar, cook till the water is almost dry (do not cover).
  6. Add grated coconut, cover and cook for 1 minute on low flame.
  7. Check salt, spice and sourness and add accordingly.
  8. Remove and serve with chapatis, parathas, rice and dal.
